About Us

Yellow Curve

ONE Transit, formerly the Regional Transportation Authority of Central Oklahoma (RTA) is a regional, independent governmental agency established to provide economic opportunity and connectivity through the development of safe, reliable, and future-forward public transit options in Central Oklahoma. We are responsible for developing, funding, constructing, implementing, operating, and maintaining transportation projects located within the boundaries of the regional transportation district.

Leadership

The Board of Directors is a seven-member group that governs the activities and initiatives of the Regional Transportation Authority of Central Oklahoma. To assure regional representation, each member city appoints two directors, except for Oklahoma City, which, based on population and taxation, appoints three. The Chairman of the board is elected from among the four appointed members. EMBARK provides administrative services and resources for ONE Transit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our History

The journey toward becoming ONE Transit has included numerous studies, stakeholders, consultants, committees, conversations, formal and informal briefings, public meetings, task force meetings, council meetings, workshops, and more. See the Major Milestones below:

2005

Regional Fixed Guideway Study Adopted

The foundation of the RTA began with the results of the 2030 Fixed Guideway Study and resulting Plan from COTPA/Embark, which aimed to improve connections throughout Central Oklahoma's growth centers, enhance economic development opportunities, improve and expand mobility options, and improve air quality.

2009

Regional Transit Dialogue

Building upon the recommendations from the 2030 Fixed Guideway Study, ACOG initiated the Regional Transit Dialogue to engage local elected officials, policy stakeholders, transit advocates, private sector leaders and the public to articulate how transit can serve the region in the years and decades to come.

2013

Commuter Corridors Study

This 18-month study provided in-depth analysis of potential alignments, technologies, ridership forecasts and estimated costs in the corridors of the region and the selection of a locally preferred alternative for each corridor. It was approved by ACOG’s Intermodal Transportation Policy Committee in 2014.

2014

Passage of HB 2480

Passage of this legislation ensured that a regional transportation authority had the flexibility to draw tax boundaries by precinct, city and county. This set the basis for allowing voters to approve funding for future regional transit projects like commuter rail, light rail, and more!

2019

Historic Signing

In February 2019, a celebration was held at Santa Fe Station memorializing the signing of the trust agreement and indenture worked on by the RTA Task Force and approved by all original cities.

2021

RTA Transit System Plan Adopted

This Regional Transit System Plan embodies a bold vision for the future including high-capacity transit that connects Central Oklahoma like never before. The regional transit corridors in the Regional Transit System Plan represent a long-term vision to be implemented over time.

2024

Adoption of Locally Preferred Alternatives

After years of study, the board voted to approve the North/South, East, West, and Airport Corridors LPA, laying the groundwork for commuter rail, expanded Bus Rapid Transit, and Light Rail in the region.

2026

ONE Transit Adopted as New Brand Name and Visual Identity

To better connect with the public and communicate its vision for a historic, connected, and prosperous Central Oklahoma, the RTA re-branded as ONE Transit.
